Sacred Songs of Vodou Presented by Marie St Germaine (Mami Moun)

Marie St Germaine will explore the central role of sacred Kreyol songs in the practice of Vodou. Serving as repositories of memory, knowledge, and history, these songs act as messengers of meaning and signposts along the unfolding road to Guinen—the spiritual home of Vodou beneath the waters. To truly understand the religion, one must understand its songs. During this session, St Germaine will conduct an exegesis of a sacred song dedicated to Papa Loko, the spiritual high priest of Vodou who confers the asson (sacred rattle) and ordains manbos and ougans (priests and priestesses). By translating the lyrics from Kreyol, St Germaine will uncover deep layers of meaning, revealing the heart of who Papa Loko is and what he represents to humanity.
